Hello, my name is Bridget.
In 2006, the home that I was renting went into foreclosure, but the owner did not tell me, so I continued to pay him rent for a house that no longer belonged to him. Had I known it was foreclosed, I could have found another place with the money that I was paying him. When I did find out, I had to scramble to find another place for me and my children.
In December 2020, the owner of the home that I had been renting for 10 years abruptly decided to sell and gave me 8 weeks to get out. He gave me a very good recommendation letter because I am always an excellent tenant.
Since something like this has happened twice, I am very uneasy when I don't know what is going on with the landlord.
I have lived where I am now for over 4 years. Twice I have signed two-year leases. My lease was up in June of 2024. The owner said that he would renew for two more years but raise the rent. I agreed, and I am paying the new rent, but three or four times since June of 2024, I have asked for the new lease to be written so that I can sign it and feel secure. That did not happen, so I started to look for somewhere else to live. I am freaking out that I am going to suddenly have no place to live again. A place opened up that would work for me, and they need me to take possession on April 15, 2025. I did not want to miss out on this place because it is one level, and that makes it perfect for when I take care of my elderly mom. So I therefore accepted it. The deposit is $2,000. The rent is $2,400. I also have to pay rent at my current place because I gave him a 30-day notice. So that is why I am reaching out for help. Because of my autoimmune-related health issues, I am not physically able to work full-time, so I don't have the money to cover all of these expenses all at the same time.
So I need the $4,400 to secure the new place. I will pay the rent for my current place because that is fair, and I have appreciated living in my current landlord's property. He told me that I have been s very good tenant. But I wish that he had been honest with me in May of 2024 when I asked him about renewing the lease that was to expire on August 15, 2024; and he said that he would. Because then I would have had almost 4 months to financially prepare to move.
Thank you so very much.
I pray for help.
