Assist an Assyrian Family in Urgent Need

Imagine watching your child struggle to breathe every day and knowing the only way to save them is to leave everything behind.

I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your help.

My aunt, her husband, and their two young children are living in my grandparents’ home in Iraq, a place that once held warmth and memories, but has now become a serious health hazard. The house is infested with black mold to an extreme degree. It has seeped into the walls, the foundation, the furniture,’nothing is untouched. Even their clothing carries the smell of mold.

Their young son has been hospitalized multiple times for severe breathing issues, but he’s not the only one suffering. The entire family has been sick, constant coughing, headaches, fatigue… signs of long-term mold exposure. The youngest child has been hit the hardest, and hospital visits have only added to their financial burden. Doctors have made it clear: no medication will help as long as they stay in this environment. Their only option now is to leave for the sake of their health and their future.

Despite working hard and always giving back to their local Assyrian community, they live paycheck to paycheck. The Iraqi government often delays paying workers for months, making it nearly impossible to cover basic needs, let alone save for a new home. And no amount of cleaning has helped as the mold has spread too far. The only solution now is to start over.

They need a new place to live, safe, clean, and free from mold. We’re raising funds to help them purchase a modest apartment and replace the basic essentials they’ll have to leave behind.

I personally stayed in the home for just two months and began developing symptoms myself. This is a real and urgent danger. This family has always opened their hearts and hands to others and now it’s our turn to support them in their time of need.

This isn’t just about helping one family, it’s about helping keep our presence alive in the land we come from. Our Assyrians back home in Iraq are the roots of who we are. Every family that stays is holding on, not just for themselves, but for all of us. When they’re forced to leave due to unlivable conditions, we lose more than people, we lose a piece of our history, our culture, our connection to home.

By supporting this family, you’re not only helping them find safety.. you’re helping preserve a future for Assyrians in our homeland.
Because every family that stays matters. Every life there is a reminder that we still belong.

Whether you can give $1 or simply share this post, your help truly means everything.

If you’re a person of faith, I ask you to remember what Christ taught us: to care for the sick, to uplift the poor, and to love our neighbor as ourselves. This family is not just someone else’s burden, they are our brothers and sisters in Christ.

When one part of the body suffers, the whole body suffers. Let us not turn a blind eye. Let us be the hands and feet of Jesus in a moment when it truly matters.

Even the smallest act of kindness can reflect God’s love, a donation, a prayer, a share. Please, help however you can. Let your faith move you to action.

May God bless you for your compassion.
