Help the fibre alumni provide essential medical care to Alex
Our former employees are our family. We started using the term “fibre alumni” a few years back when it became clear that even after leaving, former yarnistas remained a huge part of the community. You’ll often see them returning to space as instructors, or to give yarnista support where they can–whether that’s opening the shop on Plaid Friday, or simply jumping behind the counter on a busy weeknight when a skein gets an epic tangle on the swift. They are the greatest asset this shop has, and we owe them the world.
But now, it’s time for us to give back to one of our alumni: our dear Alex.
You all have been asking how to support Alex during this time, and we are now seeking support for Alex and her mom through this challenging and difficult time. End-of-life care is costly, and we are hoping to help ease that burden during a difficult season of change.
The fibre alumni have set up this GoFundMe with Alex and her mother’s permission to help provide the best possible support for her right now. We understand not everyone is in a place to give financially. Still, if you are able to donate to this GoFundMe, it will have a direct, meaningful impact on helping Alex continue and improve her hospice care.
All funds from this GoFundMe will be distributed directly to Alex and her mom.
Alex and her mom need financial support with her in-home care, ongoing out-of-pocket medical expenses, housing costs, and other end-of-life costs. Specifically, we hope to help Alex and her mom fund the following through this effort:
Dedicated home health aide: While Alex is currently on Hospice, the hospice nurses can’t assist with everyday care such as lifting and turning on her bed, or bathing. ($5,000/month in DC)
Upgrade Alex’s in-home hospital bed: An upgrade will help prevent bed sores with either an upgraded mattress and alternating pressure pad combination or by acquiring an alternating pressure low-air-loss mattress. (Around $800)
Housing and household expenses: Alex and her mom recently had to move, at a time that was not ideal. This has changed some of Alex’s care circumstances, as well as the costs. We want to support their continued habitation while all focus is on caring for Alex. ($2500/month)
Insurance premiums, co-payments, deductibles, and other out-of-pocket medical expenses that help keep Alex’s hospice care going. ($1000/month)
End-of-life costs. ($10,000)
We want to thank you again for considering our humble request to support Alex and her mom in this challenging time. One of our fibre fam needs our help, and we want to be there for her.
