Assist a Scientist's Journey to New Beginnings
Donation protected
Yesterday morning, my younger brother Chris was laid off in the recent Federal employee purges enacted by Trump/Musk. He was a research scientist for the USDA, working in a lab outside of Portland, Oregon. He was already struggling to support himself after a difficult cross-country move in the midst of a devastating divorce. The lab Chris worked in was very remote, forcing him to live out of a trailer in one of the most expensive zip codes in the state. Chris's salary barely covered his basic cost of living expenses. And since the layoffs were so abrupt (and he doesn't qualify for unemployment as a probationary hire), he has almost nothing saved for emergencies like this.
Chris is once again in an extremely precarious financial situation. However, there's a light at the end of the tunnel! He was offered a job in Florida, where the cost of living is much lower and he will still be able to work with plants and people, like he's always wanted.
His family is organizing this fundraiser to help him raise money for relocation costs, including:
- Gas money for driving his trailer across country
- Oil change for his truck so he can make it to FL safely
- Food and basic necessities while he awaits his first paycheck
- Finding a permanent place to stay in Florida
If you know my brother, you know he is the kindest, most joyful person to be around. Despite all of this hardship, we remain positive that our community can come together and show him how loved and appreciated he is.
We appreciate any and all donations, no matter how small. And we will keep you all updated as we finalize plans to get him safely to his new destination.
Thank you so much for donation and/or sharing this fundraiser!
