Hi, my name is Katheryn Burke, and I’m reaching out during a very difficult and vulnerable time for our family. After giving birth to our beautiful baby boy just five months ago, I was faced with unexpected health complications that have left me in a fragile and disabled state. This has taken a serious toll on our ability to work and maintain stable housing.

I am currently in the process of applying for disability, but due to severe backlogs, the wait time is expected to be over a year. We are also awaiting rental assistance, but that too has been delayed. Thankfully, we were able to receive some support through WIC and EBT for food, which has helped us provide for our son in the meantime.

To add to the strain, my fiancé was recently laid off from his contracting job. As a military veteran with 8 years of prior service, he has made the decision to reenlist into the U.S. Coast Guard to provide a more stable life for our little family. We’re incredibly proud of this new chapter, but right now, the transition has left us facing eviction and in desperate need of temporary housing.

With your support, we hope to secure a safe place to stay closer to my mother — where I can have help caring for our baby and begin to heal while we wait for the military to relocate us as a family.
