About me
Hi, my name is Vernon Ruth, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart and a deep sense of hope. I am a youth coach, single father, and I’ve dedicated my life to serving my community as a corrections officer. Recently, life threw me a curveball and I was assaulted by my supervisors at work. After being professionally diagnosed with PTSD and having a surgery on my foot, I’ve been unable to work in my field in full capacity and returning to work poses a safety concern. The changes and losses in my career are beyond detrimental and out of may hands. I graduated from Mercer University (Atlanta Campus) with my Bachelors and Masters. Unfortunately, you just do not see these types of life situations happening. I am faced with a financial struggles I never anticipated.
The Hardships
What was supposed to be a routine day on the job, has turned into a life changing experience. It has been a long road to recovery as well. Due to complications, Vernon is temporarily unable to work in full capacity, leaving him in a difficult financial situation. With bills stacking up and his income no longer reliable, Vernon is finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with the costs of everyday life. He has just recently become a home owner and faces the threats of foreclosure. His attorney believes he has a strong case but he does not have the funds to pay at this time. Last but not least, the fees associated with his son Samuel’s football program are overwhelming.
"As a father, one of my greatest joys has been watching my son play football. He’s not just any player — he’s a young athlete with the dream of continuing the game and furthering his skills. But like many kids with big dreams, the costs to stay involved in football — from equipment to travel expenses, too fees for coaching and training — add up quickly. He doesn't fully understand his father is a victim of workplace bullying and harassment. Some government jobs often act exempt to accountability and lack empathy for subordinate staff." Staff and management corruption is a major concern in Vernon's situation.
As much as I want to keep supporting my son’s passion and daily expenses such as housing and youth events, I find myself in a situation where it’s becoming harder and harder to make it work. Due to my current situation not caused by me, the financial strain is overwhelming, and as a father, that breaks my heart.
The Bigger Picture
Vernon’s situation is temporary, and he’s doing everything he can to get back on his feet. But in the meantime, he wants to ensure him and his son have a roof over their heads and food on the table. Vernon has always worked hard to give his family a better future. Now, he’s asking for help from his community to ensure justice, a home, and that Samuel doesn’t have to give up on his passion.
How You Can Help
Vernon is not one to ask for help lightly, but right now, he needs to. He’s reaching out to friends, family, and kind-hearted individuals who understand how important it is for justice to be heard and served. No agency has the right to condone workplace violence. Furthermore, children should have opportunities to pursue their dreams, especially during challenging times.
The funds raised through this GoFundMe campaign will go directly to covering legal fees, substantial personal bills caused by the incidents at work, and Samuel’s extracurricular activity fees. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a world of difference for this family in need.
Thank You
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for considering a donation. Whether it’s $5, $50, or $100, every contribution counts. Vernon and Samuel are grateful for the love and kindness shown by everyone who stands behind them.
Please share this campaign with others who might want to help, and let’s make sure Samuel can continue to play the sport he loves, with his dad right there cheering him on every step of the way.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story and for any support you can provide. Your kindness and generosity will never be forgotten, and I promise that once we’re back on our feet, I’ll pay this forward and continue serving my community in every way I can.
With gratitude,
Vernon Ruth (Mostafa)
