Hi Friends,

I hope you’re doing well. I’m in my 7th month in Los Angeles and I need your help. This is not easy for me to write. I’m not someone who usually asks for help, I’ve spent my life helping others. But today, I’m reaching out as humbly as I can.

A little over seven months ago, after losing my father, I moved to Los Angeles to be closer to my only brother. Shortly after arriving, I lost my job. I’ve been actively applying to jobs ever since -more than 100 applications- but navigating the job market has been challenging because my social work licensure from New York doesn’t easily transfer to California. Even positions outside my leadership background (Program Director roles) have been difficult to secure.

Alongside this, a more urgent health issue has developed: I have severe cataracts in both eyes. I’m currently unable to drive and have significant difficulty with daily activities. Until I can receive the medical care I need to address my vision, I must remain in Los Angeles, where I have the support of my brother and familiar doctors.

This is why I’m asking for help today: I need assistance covering my rent ($2,300) for the month of May. This stability is crucial to keep me housed and close to my medical care while I undergo treatment.

Through unemployment benefits and the generosity of family and friends, I’ve managed up until now. But between limited income and the cost of medical needs, I am in a difficult position. Thankfully, my surgery is scheduled for June.

Any support given will go directly to rent and insurance needs. I am also actively seeking remote work opportunities that can sustain me during my recovery and beyond.
