Assaulted on MTA and left with severe eye ulcer.

Hi Everyone, My name is Dami Adewunmi, and I am a senior painting major at Pratt Institute. In what was supposed to be my final semester, after waiting 5 years to graduate , going through the Covid19 pandemic and coming out the other side, and finally starting on my Senior Thesis Paintings and dreaming about life after college, I was hit with a situation I still cannot fully comprehend. On Friday February 9th, 2024, I was assaulted on the Nostrand Av A/C stop by a drug addict, or a crackhead, and crack smoke was blown into my eye. I, sadly, did not think much of the situation as again, sadly, it is not rare atall to see drug addicts all over the MTA, or to experience them smoking or shooting up right next to you. On Saturday, that whole day my eye was red, itchy and felt like there was something in it, I thought that maybe my contact had a scratch or tear, and after examining them realized they didn’t, so I disinfected them, and put them back on but it didn’t stop my eye from hurting or being light sensitive. By Sunday morning my eye was filled with pus, in excruciating pain, and was extremely light sensitive, I was in so much pain I couldn’t even bring myself to go to the doctors until Monday, and by Monday my eye was in a full blown severe infection, with a huge corneal ulcer. The doctors at Mount Sinai Eye and Ear Infirmary told me that if I had not came in that day I would’ve lost my eye. This has never ever ever happened to me in ALL of my years of wearing contacts. Now, my life and schooling is on pause because I am blind in my right eye and in excruciating pain, this has led me to become so increasingly depressed, even to the point of suicidal ideation because i just cannot believe that something like this would have EVER happened to me. This Gofundme will be used to help cover my medical bills and transportation to the optometrist, as they said that I will likely have to have a corneal transplant to my eye because of the likelihood of extreme scarring due to how big the corneal ulcer was. It will also be used towards money to help me find a lawyer as I plan to sue the MTA, or the city as I have a right to protection on the transit and I was obviously not protected. This situation has taken so much out of me and Im still in shock by how fast everything happened. Please, if you can, help me, if not please share my story. Thank you so much
