Assaulted and robbed in Bali

My cousin was assaulted and robbed which caused him and his partner to fall off their scooter, breaking every single rib on the right side of his body, as well as the front and back of his shoulder.

My cousin Dilor and his partner Cosette were enjoying their last relaxing night in Bali, when they decided at midnight to go get some McDonald’s.

On the way home, Cosette was behind Dilor on the same scooter. She was holding her phone up with her right hand using the GPS, when two random men wearing full black helmets, black body suits and black gloves approached them very closely.

Travelling at a decent speed (40-50km p/hr), one of the criminals snatched the phone from Cosette’s hand, resulting in Dilor falling off balance and crashing his bike.

Cosette got up immediately and saw her loving boyfriend on the floor, with his eyes rolling to the back of the head, and making unusual sounds. She immediately burst into tears. A scene out of a scary movie.

Dilor has suffered complete fractures to all 6 ribs on the back of his right side, as well as 6 partial fractures to all 6 ribs on the front of his right side. He also completely fractured his clavicle, and scapula (front and back of his shoulder). There has been blood that has leaked into his lungs, as well as some air that has seeped into his brain, due to a minor fracture on his skull.

Along with multiple areas of her body being grazed, scratched and bruised, there is also the traumatic image of her injured partner that Cosette will have engrained in her brain forever.

We are grateful that they are simply breathing, It is a miracle that they are both even alive after this horrendous assault.

Being unfit to fly, Dilor is unable to board a flight back to his home in Australia, and is being forced to be operated on in Bali, Indonesia.

As you could imagine, the medical bills overseas are not cheap at all.

We have been in touch with their travel insurance company, but as Dilor did not purchase any pre-planned expenses before the trip with his selected credit card, they are unwilling to help.

The complete medical bill from the BIMC Hospital in Kuta, Bali stands at:

IDR: 710,289,625.

AUD: $69,362.26.

This does not include any flights that we need to rebook, and hotels that must be extended.

The biggest sore factor with this story, is that my cousin and his partner were victims of an assault. And because of this assault, now they are being forced to put their hands in their pockets, and ask their loved ones for assistance.
