At about 2am on October 30th, My 22 year old daughter, Assante, was in the passenger seat when her drunk “designated driver” lost control, hit a tree, and the car burst into flames. Assante lost consciousness and when she woke up she somehow managed to push the passed out driver out of the car and crawl out herself as her door was stuck closed. She laid in the street until EMS arrived and took her to UCDavis Medical Center Emergency Room. Assante sustained a traumatic brain injury, fractured coccyx, both feet/ankles fractured, and multiple scratches and bruises throughout her body. She was transferred to Kaiser Antioch late Wednesday night. She has been in excruciating pain pretty much 24/7. We came here hoping for surgery, but when the temporary splints were removed today, her right foot is too swollen for surgery. There is a possibility that she may be able to come home either tomorrow or Saturday to wait for the swelling to go down and have her surgeries closer to home in Sacramento. She is completely non weight bearing on both legs and is having even more difficulty finding a pain free position due to the coccyx fracture. So she will remain bed bound for the next several months.

I have been by her side every day until they kick me out. I have taken an unpaid leave from work until she is able to be independent. As we prepare to bring her home, I am finding out that not everything is covered by insurance. I will make sure she has everything she needs for a healthy recovery, but so many people have been asking me how they can help, so I created a way for you to help.
