Aspiring Roller Derby Mom Faces $23K Surgery Bill
Donation protected
Hello, friends!
Our friend and teammate-in-training, Sara "Pix" Hutchinson, broke her leg near the ankle (the lower end of one of the long bones- the fibula) practicing roller derby just before Christmas. Unfortunately, she requires surgery to repair it, which will be on Dec. 30... And Sara doesn't have health insurance (she makes too much for one type and not enough for another, and insurance can be ridiculously expensive, etc).
Sara is a dedicated mama to 2 crazy young kiddos, a wife, a fur-mom and a Veterinarian assistant, so life is a little hectic.
The surgery itself is projected to be almost $23,000. Add on the ER visit, Ortho and doc appointments, and meds and supplies, and these add up quickly for anyone. She and/or her husband have to miss work and precious paychecks that keep them fed and housed, and they need a hand to keep them afloat.
In roller derby we have found an amazing mental and physical outlet that also includes a team and acquired family of eclectic, loving and supportive individuals. Sara loves it and has been dedicated to learning how to skate and supporting our local team since joining a few months ago. Her first question to the ER doc was, "How long before I can be back on skates?"
Please consider helping Sara and her family out, to relieve some of the financial stress of injury and surgery.
If you would like to donate but would rather use Venmo, her info is sarhutch09.
Thank you!!
