Hi, my name is Chelsea. I am trying to raise money for my daughter’s cranial vault remodel, also known as CVR.
In August it was suspected that she might have craniosynostosis, as it appeared her soft spots were closed prematurely. Upon doing some research, we found a team in Texas that is world renowned and scheduled an appointment in December.
Within minutes it was confirmed that she does have Metopic Synostosis (Trigonocephaly) and it will require surgery. Anterior Cranial Vault Remodel is what she’s having done. It has to be done by the time she’s 15 months old (July 4th) to avoid ICP (Intracranial pressure) on her brain. As of now she’s not in pain, has no cognitive delays and the visual deformity is very minimal.

The procedure is pretty invasive. They’ll have to cut an inch above her ear from one side to the other and basically remodel her skull so that her brain has plenty of room to grow.
We chose this specific team because of their and success rates and statistics. She is less likely to need a repeat surgery in the future, or encounter any complications. He does whatever he can to reduce the need for blood transfusion and if it is needed, he recycles the child’s blood and puts it back in. He does not use narcotics during or after the procedure. He has found that anti-nausea meds and ibuprofen seem to do the trick. His procedures take around 3 hours compared to others that are up to 10 hours her time spent under anesthesia is minimal. He does not use staples, screws or plates. She will not need a helmet and if everything goes well she’ll be headed home within 48 hours. His recovery rates are among the highest, he’s never lost a child during a surgery and cares for each child as his own. He is a plastic surgeon so he wants everything as aesthetically pleasing as possible. He does about 100 of these surgeries a year, whereas some hospitals only do a handful.
As soon as I met Dr Fearon I knew we’d be in good hands. There’s no one I’d trust more with our baby girl. In fact, while I was in the waiting room two other families approached me to tell me we were in good hands. They were both their for their child’s repeat surgery because their first one wasn’t done correctly by 2 other hospitals. I can’t imagine going through this more than once.
That being said, our insurance is out of network so the total cost of the procedure is $210,000. Since we are opting for self-pay, they discount it to $54,000. And we would need $10,700 as a down payment to schedule the appointment. There would also be some travel costs as it is in Dallas.
I feel like we’re racing against time to come up with the money. We have other children and 2 businesses so we need to get something scheduled as quickly as possible so that we can get everything in order and have less to stress about.
Although Casey and I would give the shirts off our back to anyone in need, we have a very hard time asking for help. We would be so grateful for any donations received towards scheduling Aspen’s procedure. Literally anything helps!
We will also be doing some local fundraisers if you’re interested in participating, we’d love that too.
