For those of you that don’t already know her, meet Aspen.
She is 6 years old, lives in Nevada, and spends her life hiking all over the mountains with her parents, Brian and Megan. She is one of those dogs that is as-tough- as-nails, but is also a cuddly 50-lb lap dog. She was just introduced to her first human baby sister a month ago and already goes and checks on her every time she hears her cry.
Her leg really hurts, but she has no idea why.
Unfortunately, Aspen was diagnosed with bone cancer earlier this week. A little over two months ago, she started limping out of the blue one day. After a few vet visits, x-rays, pain medication, and rest, the limping was decided to be attributed to the ligaments in her knee. The limping went away for the most part for about two months. Last week, the limping came back, and she was barely using her rear left leg. Her lower leg was, and still is, extremely swollen. We had thought she had reinjured her knee or tore a muscle. We took her to the vet and found out that she has bone cancer, an extremely painful cancer.
Aspen needs to have surgery to amputate her leg to make her pain free and potentially stop the cancer from taking her life. She will likely need chemotherapy afterwards to slow or kill the cancer. As you can imagine, this all adds up to be financially overwhelming.
Please help Aspen to become pain free, give her the opportunity to get to know her new sister, and continue to live her life as happily as she ever has...just on three legs! Even just words of encouragement for her parents would be a blessing! Please share Aspen's story with your friends and family.
Thank you from Aspen, Megan, Brian, and Baby Jasmyn!
