Aspens FND Recovery Fund

August of 2021, our daughter had a traumatic experience that led her to the brave decision to ask for help. She willingly checked herself into a hospital, she left the hospital paralyzed, one month later.

Mid-treatment, Aspen was given a medication, not once but twice, that left her in a complete state of full body paralysis. This medication is now listed as a known allergy on her records. After much testing, Neurologists diagnosed her with Functional Neurological Disorder. FND is a misfiring of nerve function and how the brain and body sends and/or receive signals. It can be triggered by medication, surgery, trauma, concussion, or nothing at all.

She has nonepileptic seizures that set her back to a "reset" state, where she has to learn all over again how to eat, grip, write, and speak. This was happening daily but with a new seizure medication, it's less but still too often. She has shown no improvement and has no feeling from the legs down. She also has sensory issues, tics and lots of nerve pain, she's exhausted all the time.

It's a very misunderstood disease. Since there is no magic pill to fix it, neurologists diagnose and then dismiss with little information. As we learn more and more about this rare disease, Aspen is being beautifully open about wanting to share her story and bring awareness.

There are very few treatment facilities in the US, long wait lists and applications to get accepted. As we fight to find her the proper help we hope you will lift her up with words of encouragement through her sharing and please share as well so that others will not have to feel so alone in figuring out this complex disorder.

Aspen has been very lucky to have had an interview with NeuroHealth in Boulder, CO, and a full FND treatment program in Torrence, California that we were both very impressed with. Fingers crossed for acceptance into the program as we try to raise the funds to make it happen . Remission is possible, the sooner you receive proper treatment, which has seemed the more impossible part of this.

Funds are needed as soon as possible so once we get an acceptance, we can reserve her spot in a program. Funds will all go directly to her medical treatment as well living expenses to get her there for the allotted time needed.
