We are ASL students raising money for our ASL teacher to purchase a new hearing aid. The cost of the hearing aid is so high and we need help raising the funds. His current hearing aid is broken, and has lasted much longer than it was expected to. A hearing aid should only last 5 years and our teacher has worn his for 10. It is unacceptable to not acknowledge  how impractical it is to expect someone to replace something that connects them to non-signing society every 5 years. On any salary this is an absurd price to pay for something you can not control. Insurance simply can not cover the cost of a hearing aid. It is imperative that this cost be covered quickly. Despite being an amazing ASL teacher with perfect signing,  Life with out a hearing aid is less than acceptable for someone who spends most of his time with hearing and non-signing people. He has a hearing wife and a hearing family, Can you imagine living most of your life being able to hear them and suddenly losing that? Though he is an important member of Deaf culture we want to help our teacher get the opportunity to experience things we take for granted.
