My name is Jaye-Lynn, I am 21 years old. Last year I was diagnosed with a degenerative eye condition called Keratoconus. Keratoconus causes the cornea to thin and or change shape resulting in irregular/blurred/double vision, sensitivity to light, easily irritated and itchiness in the eyes. If gone untreated can even lead to blindness. I’ve had trouble seeing for a while because this condition causes your vision to change very quickly making it hard to have an accurate prescription. Glasses no longer help and within the last year it has gotten so bad that if I don’t get the procedure to freeze this condition, I will likely end up blind. The procedure is called Cornea Crosslinking. Insurance does not cover it and I have been unable to work, get my license, and struggle to read. I have to squint so hard it causes migraines just to still barely see anything. My mother and I are doing our best having to come out of pocket to save my eyes, but since we are both out of work due to Covid we are only able to come up with half.
