Support for Ryan
Donation protected
My name is Sarah Summers and I'm raising funds to assist my brother, Ryan Summers, as he fights his battle with leukemia. After months of dealing with bouts of vertigo, headaches, and exhaustion, Ryan developed a deep cough last week & was taken to the Emergency Department on Monday morning (3/25/24), which led to a diagnosis of pneumonia and Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), a rare but aggressive type of blood cancer. He was transported by ambulance to the University of Chicago Hospital to begin the intensive in-patient 4+ week chemo treatment protocol, which will also include several blood transfusions and bone marrow biopsies. I will be undergoing genetic testing to see if I am a match to donate bone marrow stem cells if his treatment may need a transplant down the road (full siblings have a better chance of matching than any other family member). Ryan's wife, Amy, will be staying with him in the hospital and I will be traveling back and forth weekly. Unfortunately, he will be unable to have visits from his two younger kids, per the cancer unit's policy, which will be incredibly hard for this family. Ryan is 46 years old & has been unable to work due to his symptoms since the fall of 2023. His wife will be staying at the hospital with him continuously but does not have paid leave at her job. I am asking for your help to assist this family with their numerous medical bills and daily living expenses during their difficult time away from home while Ryan battles this aggressive disease. Any amount is helpful and appreciated.
