LFR International is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization that is focused on savings lives from trauma around the globe. Currently, 91% of the African population does not have access emergency medical services (EMS).
To date, LFR International has trained 6,500 first responders in 9 countries employing the World Health Organization’s recommendation to empower lay first responders (commercial drivers, taxi drivers, police officers etc.) as the most effective means of building out first response in these countries.
100% of our funds go directly into our training programs, as our employees are volunteers. This makes us more cost effective than 99% of non-profits, with an estimated cost of $0.12 per citizen covered by EMS and $53.4 per healthy life year saved.
Our specific mission in Kenya:
- train an additional 400 responders in Level I EMS
- conduct a needs assessment and lay out first steps towards establishing Level II EMS (EKGs, intubation, stroke care) with our professional paramedic partners at the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology in Kakamega, Kenya
- organize a knowledge retention study of Level I trainers in Kenya
