UPDATE:
As of May 4, 2017
Due to the severity of the type of Cancer Ashton has he will be having to continue his treatments out of state in San Diego, California. He is in desperate need of Stem-Cell Transplants. Unfortunately the state they live in does not have the technology needed in order to assist in his medically life-threatening situation. The Family is in desperate need of financial assistance in order to make this trip happen and to help them in saving their precious son's life. They have been told that my cousin will have to be out there on May 11 through atleast the end of June and depending on how he is doing... possibly they may even have to stay til the beginning of July!
Unfortunately, the families finances have been depleted through this last year and are in desperate need of help in order to save their precious son's life. The Oncology team assigned to Ashton's case have stressed that without having this out of state medical treatment and Stem cell transplants not only does Ashton run the risks of the cancer spreading into his blood or bones.... he could lose this battle with cancer! :(
We are now reaching out to you, our beloved Family, Friends, Acquaintances, and compassionate strangers as well to help us save Ashton's Life!!!
The Family is appreciative of any and all help they can get, at this point they do not have the money in order to make this trip and will not only be responsible for reliable transportation, gas, lodging, meals etc;
If you are unable to donate please share this site so we can spread the word and help this amazing, loving, and very courageous young man get the help he needs so we can save his life!
On behalf our my entire family we thank you in advance.
" Ashton's Battle with Stage 4 Mixed Germ Cell Cancer"
On January 28, 2016 was the day that my family's world was turned upside down. My cousin, Shelly Short rushed her oldest son Ashton Shipley, (age 17) into the Hospital Emergency room after complaints of a severely swollen testicle which was the size of a grapefruit. Through all kinds of tests it was than discovered that he had a huge Testicular mass and would have to undergo surgery to remove it. The Surgical team ended up having to remove his entire testicle due to the size of the mass and also discovered while in surgery that he also had an 8 pound tumor hiding up inside his abdominal cavity of my baby cousin Ashton. The family was in shock and disbelief at the news that would follow after running a series of testing. It was than that the Doctors and medical staff revealed the horrific news that not only did Ashton have Cancer but it was stage 4 (Mixed Germ Cell Cancer). The testing also revealed that the cancer had in fact already spread and matestized and there were a total of 5 tumors found within his body. Ashton also had 2 tumors in his abdomen, and one tumor in each of his lungs.
This has been a complete nightmare for the family upon receiving this devasting news that their oldest baby boy not only had Cancer but it was already at stage 4 which is one of the worst things a parent could ever hear. Since this diagnosis, the care plan put in place has been very aggressive and immediately following the first surgery to remove the testicle and huge tumor, Ashton had to have another surgery so they could place the port (pick line) into his heart so they could begin very aggressive chemotherapy each time requiring lengthy hospitalizations. Ashton has also had surgery on his lung to remove the bigger tumor first. Than followed up with more aggressive chemotherapy and additional testing to follow to once again see if any progress was being made by the treatments. The remaining tumors were in fact beginning to shrink.
Ashton's was actually in remission for a little over 3 months..... He has been soo brave and strong and such a fighter thru all of this considering how fast he was diagnosed and all the testing, procedures, and surgeries he has had to endure and the toll it has taken on his body.
The family was soo relieved thinking that finally the worst of this was behind them. Ever since January 2016 this has been an absolute nightmare for the entire family especially for Ashton, his mother, father, and his two younger siblings (whom are from a different father).
Than they took their brave and courageous son in for his routine check-up to see how things were going and after having a PET Scan it was determined that the tumor in his other lung was back and immediately another Lung surgery was scheduled to remove it to stop the cancer from spreading once again and another direct line was again placed into his heart for more chemotherapy treatments.
Ashton just recently endured another chemo session... and after going through all the options the oncology team assigned to his case have determined that now they must transfer his case out of state because he is in desperate need of stem cell transplants to prevent this type of cancer from spreading into his blood or into his bones. They do not have the technology needed in Las Vegas, Nevada where my family currently resides so they have no other options.
During this last year the emotional and financial burden has taken a toll on my family,... especially my cousin Shelly who also has two other young children and is a single mother. Ashton's father is doing everything he can to help as well and shares custody with Ashton's mother.
Unfortunatley, through this last year my cousin shelly has not been able to work because she has remained by her son's side through all of this as any loving mother would. She has lost her house as a result and is staying with one of her amazing life long friends, she does have transportation but its not been reliable due to mechanical issues and once again finances needed to keep up with all the maintenance. She also has a younger son and daughter and it has been a struggle to take care of them because she receives no child support from her ex-husband.
My family is now once again preparing for an even more difficult and challenging road ahead.
Due to having to continue treatments out of state to literally help save their son's precious life. No child or adult should have cancer nor should they have to endure all of the things that Ashton has in such a short time.... at such a young age... our entire family is heart broken over this and are now reaching out to our family friends, and anyone reading this to please help if you possibly can even if you are only able to and can share this page it will help our family in their immeninent time of need. On behalf of my family we want to thank you ALL in advance.
