Dear friends, family, and loved ones,
We are collecting funds to establish an Ashraf Hani Sabah Memorial Scholarship for the graduating Class of 2023 at John R. Lewis High School, formerly Lee High School in Springfield, VA.
A proud class of 2003 graduate, to know Ashraf was to love him. On the exterior, Ashraf looked tough and intimidating. Once you got to know him, he radiated like the sun—bringing love, warmth, and kindness wherever he went. Ashraf was the type of person to pull over on the side of the parkway to help an unknown classmate whose car spun out and needed help. Loyal and protective, he would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it.
Whether on the football field, in the weightlifting room, in shop class, or while hanging out in SGA—Ashraf embodied generosity, authenticity, determination, and passion wherever he went. He envisioned a life of public service, and his future was bright. Though his life ended too soon, his memory is undoubtedly a blessing to all his friends and family.
The son of hard-working immigrants, Ashraf was an advocate for justice and was proud of his Palestinian roots. Twenty years after our LHS graduation, in coordination with family and loved ones, we would like to present the Ashraf Hani Sabah Memorial Scholarship to a Class of 2023 Lancer who embodies the characteristics modeled by Ash: generosity, authenticity, determination, and passion. This scholarship intends to support traditional and non-traditional post-grad plans in pursuit of a life in service to others.
Purpose:
This scholarship aims to award a one-time scholarship to a graduating Class of 2023 LHS senior—who best embodies the characteristics of Ashraf. If we exceed our goal, we will coordinate with the Sabah family and potentially create additional scholarships.
Thank you in advance for your love and support!
