Hi, my name is Daryl Malas, and the goal of this fundraiser is to help raise support for our daughter, Ashlynn Williams, who recently underwent a heart transplant. The support specifically helps two things: 1) Current medical bills ($44,770 after insurance); 2) Supplement their income to cover rent for 4 months.
Update: After pathology on her old heart, they determined the DRESS syndrome was not a direct cause. She had underlying giant cell myocarditis. The cardiologist said it was the worst case of giant cell myocarditis they had ever seen. Ashlynn’s heart had more than they could count. The only path forward was transplant. They said she was a miracle.
At the end of August, my daughter suffered a rare reaction to a prescription medicine. The reaction resulted in DRESS (Drug Rash with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms) syndrome which covered her body entirely in a rash, swelling, and it attacked her internal organs. After spending weeks in the hospital, we believed she was doing much better. She was laughing, spending time with family, and seemed like she was recovering. Unfortunately, she began to suffer heart pain about 10 days ago. She went to the emergency department, and she was admitted to the cardio ICU the very next morning. Over the next two days, my wife and I watched our daughter decline rapidly. She was shocked 3 times, resuscitated 2 times, and she was put on life support with kidney and heart failure. By way of a miracle, just 2 days later, she received a heart transplant. While she is beginning the long road of recovery, the financial reality of the hospital stays is adding up in two significant ways. First, the medical bills from the past and current hospital stays have resulted in over $44,000 of bills after insurance. Second, her husband has missed work, and is on FMLA receiving a reduced salary. Plus, Ashlynn is not working. The result is a big financial strain while working to heal both physically and mentally. Our goal is to raise funds to help with both the medical and monthly bills while she and her husband fight through the long road of recovery and doctors appointments. Your donation and prayers are greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
