Ashlyn Finn medical needs
Donation protected
Ashlyn was born with a complex heart defect that required four heart surgeries before the age of 4. After her last heart surgery, she was put on Coumadin. Because of the Coumadin, Ashlyn ended up having internal bleeding in her brain where she needed emergency brain surgery to save her life. This left her with permanent brain damage. She recovered almost fully but still struggles with her learning. Things seemed to be quite normal for Ashlyn for the years since the brain injury, but in early 2018 Ashlyn suffered a seizure. She had a CT scan but the doctors said everything seemed fine. She was put on medication to control the seizures. She continued to suffer seizures that year and it wasn't until late 2018 was it discovered through MRI that she had a softball-sized tumor in her head. She again needed surgery almost immediately to remove this very large tumor. She had the surgery in December 2018 but the doctor couldn't successfully or safely remove it all. It was discovered to be a benign meningioma tumor and the hope was the little remaining wouldn't grow back. But it did. Ashlyn needed another surgery this past September 2019. The doctor was able to get more of the tumor this time but still a small piece remains. Her team of doctors feels its best if Ashlyn undergoes Proton Radiation Therapy to kill the remainder of the tumor. Unfortunately, this type of radiation can only be done at Mass General Hospital. We don't have all the details finalized yet, but soon she and her mother, Liz, will be traveling and staying in Boston for her to have this treatment. Liz will be unable to work during this time and we want to help lift the financial burden for this family. We appreciate your donations and prayers!
