Six years ago my sister was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation. Within the past two years, she was presented with newer, uncanny symptoms which unfolded to be three additional diagnoses being IIH, Papilledma, and a Pineal Cyst. With a plethora of doctors appointments, tests and scans, medications- it was a trial and error with her doctors doing everything they could to keep her out of surgery. Within the first few months of 2023, her symptoms continued progressing, which included worsening already chronic headaches and migraines - something like electric shocks as how she described, cognitive dysfunction and aggressive brain fog, tingling and tremors, vision loss, unable to go about her daily life with work, personal life outside of work, and continuing to pursue her passions due to just pure exhaustion and consistent pain. On May 9, 2023, her Neurosurgeon, Dr. C Prestigiacomo decided it was go time to schedule her surgery being the severity of how fast the symptoms were progressing. After the multiple discussions back and forth with my mom, her surgeon, and my sister, the surgery was agreed to. On June 15, 2023 Ashlyn underwent Suboccipital Decompression with C1 Laminectomy (Vertebrae removal) and Duraplasty (reconstruction operation on the open dura/outer layer of brain) surgery. The funds will be put towards her operation & hospital stay, medical bills, and time away from work. Thank you to every single person that has been on this journey supporting and encouraging her & continuing to do so and thank you for supporting her and her time of need!
