Our beautiful Ashlie is going through such a difficult time at this moment. Ashlie was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome a month before her 5th birthday, and our life has never been the same. That being said, Rett Syndrome does not define her. Ashlie is the sweetest, most sassy, funny, and strongest 12-year-old you will ever meet. Ashlie brings joy to anyone that knows her, and she knows how to make everyone fall in love with her sweet personality ❤️.
Ashlie has had a rough year, to say the least. She has had 4 pneumonias, one turning to sepsis in February. On July 5th, we had to bring her back to Children's Hospital LA because she was not feeling well, and that's when her nightmare began. She was admitted to the pediatric ICU and comatose for an entire 7 days due to brain encephalopathy from a viral infection. On day 5 of 7, she could no longer breathe for herself and ended up having to be intubated. She was extubated 2 weeks later and was doing good for 4 days. On day 4 of being extubated, she had a mucus plug, her lung collapsed, and she had to get re-intubated. After another 3 weeks of trying to build up her strength, Ashlie was extubated again for less than 24 hours. She was struggling to breathe and running out of options. She is now on full mechanical lung support while waiting for trach surgery. Our hope is that the trach will help her body heal and be stable enough to continue care at home.
We have never asked anyone for anything ever, but we have had a rough time emotionally and financially. Ashlie has been in the hospital for almost 2 months and, from the looks of it, we have at least one more month ahead of us. Her recovery will be a long and difficult process. We are grateful for any and all love, support, and prayers for Ashlie and our family. Any funds raised will go toward medical bills, equipment, daily living adaptations, nursing help, and improving Ashlie's quality of life.
Please help us bring our baby home.
