Ashley Thompson -AML Cancer Financial Support

Thank you for taking the time to stop by and see the details of this campaign!

This is my 4th oldest sister, out of 10 of us, Ashley! Next to her is her husband Earl, a fantastic man! Recently, 3 months prior to her 5 year anniversary in remission for a rare cancer called Acute Myeloid Leukemia (is an aggressive hematologic malignancy which is cured in a minority of patients), my sister found out that it had returned. Unfortunately, many cancers are reputable for being more enduring when remission occurs.  [AML Cancer - Chemo Cost Details at The End]

Our family had an incredibly rough upbringing. Some of us got tossed around, some of us landed in stable homes. My relationship with Ashley is incredibly special to me because in the upbringing process, we struggled together in situations no one could imagine seeing their kids in. I missed out on many important things growing up like love, guidance, emotional support etc. So, you can imagine for me, growing up with very few familial connections, the few turbulent years I did get to have her around, provided a ton of comfort I wasn't used to having. It really kills me seeing her go through this for a second time. I mean it when I say, there are very few things that gave my childhood any sort of light. I don't want to see one of those things suffer. She is strong and she is a fighter, so I have no doubts that a positive outcome will be the case. However, it is still stressful to know the financial and logistical impact it will have on her personal life in the short and long term. For a second time at that.

Its hard to ask for financial support in any regard, because we are all working hard to make ends meet. Ashley has always made things happen for herself in life with little to no help. She did the same with her first battle with cancer. This time, I want to try and find her all the help I can. Her husband took on the responsibility of being the sole provider in the first round and will again this round. I know he’s happy to do whatever it takes to support Ashley, but this kind of situation is seriously detrimental for anyone. Being married myself, I can say it would devastate me if I had to see my Wife work double time to support us if I was for some reason incapacitated. I sincerely hope you can understand why I am using every available resource to provide financial assistance for my sister.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and support the campaign. I can't explain how grateful my whole family is for any help we can get to see Ashley through this fight! For transparency sake, I included some areas where the financial support will be directed to. I have also included some information about the type of cancer Ashley is currently being treated for.

[Acute Myeloid Leukemia]

This cancer is described as: progressing rapidly, with myeloid cells interfering with the production of normal white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. This cancer type beings in the bone marrow, the soft in material of various bones in the body that essential produce our blood. Given the origin location and nature of this type of cancer, it is a very dangerous one. Its ability to metastasize is very likely.

[Medical Costs]

Original appointments to determine why Ashley had mass bruising; Ongoing blood work, ongoing tests; Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation Treatment; Minimum of 3 weeks hospital stay; Ongoing Blood Transfusions due to platelet reproduction problems; Chemo Treatment; Loss of income due to inability to work; Bone Marrow Tests for Remission; Not in remission move to a more specialized form of treatment with Xospata(gilteritinib) which costs roughly $23,000 for 90 day supply;

 [ XOSPATA® (gilteritinib) - Chemo Treatment]

Treatment with the FLT3-targeted therapeutic gilteritinib (Xospata) improved survival for patients with relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML) harboring a FLT3 mutation compared with standard chemotherapy regimens, according to results from the ADMIRAL phase III clinical trial presented at the AACR Annual Meeting 2019, March 29–April 3. Gilteritinib was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treating adult patients who have relapsed or refractory AML that tests positive for a FLT3 mutation in November 2018.
