Ashley's Brain Fund

Last month Ashley began experiencing ocassional numbness in her face and arms.  It started at once a day and gradually increased to four.  She went to the doctor and was told that these bouts of numbness were seizures.  They immediately began testing and within days Ashley was diagnosed with a low-grade astrocytoma (tumor) in her brain.

The tumor is located right above the left ear and in the speech center. Due to its location, the brain surgery requires her to stay awake so that they can do Brain Mapping to be sure they do no harm to her speech center.

There are only a few doctors in the country that do this type of surgery, and she has elected to go to San Francisco to see Dr. Mitchel Berger who is the leader in Brain Mapping.  The surgery is scheduled for the first week of November.

Ashley's mother, father and brother will be joining her in San Francisco for the surgery and post-op care.  This will be approximately ten days. 

After returning to Helena, recovery will take roughly 8-12 weeks. 

Ashley has always been an incredibly hard worker and is currently teaching 8th grade science at East Valley Middle School in East Helena, MT.  She will be using sick leave to heal up after the surgery and will have to take many days unpaid. 

The funds from GoFundMe will go towards medical expenses and family travel (airfare, hotel, food) while supporting Ashley in San Francisco.  Anything more will help with everyday expenses after surgery in Helena to help support her family (six year old son, Korren) while she takes unpaid leave from work.
