Ashley's Kidney and Pancreas Transplant

This GoFundMe was setup to help raise money for a kidney and pancreas transplant, and other various costs for Ashley Prescott.  Ashley has been one of my best friends for the past 15 years.  She’s also a wife, mother of two beautiful 9 year old twins, daughter, sister and aunt.   Ashley truly is the definition of selfless.  She has been a social worker, advocate, foster parent and rescuer of numerous animals, volunteer and member of the PTA at her twins’ school, and a fighter for Medicare for all.

Ashley has been struggling with diabetes for over three decades.  I’ve watched while she’s been so sick that she can’t get out of bed, or has missed various functions while having to be hospitalized.  Her body is tired from trying to fight for so long, and she is in Stage 4 kidney failure.   It has taken months of doctor’s appointments, exams/tests, and blood work for Ashley to even be considered for the transplant list.  These procedures are only good for six months before she will have to have them all redone.   They alone can be a financial burden, as they are not fully covered by health insurance.

Initially, Ashley applied to be put on the transplant list at Advent Health in Orlando, Florida.  Unfortunately, she was denied at this facility for health insurance reasons.  She then applied at facilities in Jacksonville and Miami.   Finally, Ashley received news on the July 8th that she was going to be placed on the transplant list at the Miami Transplant Institute.

Since the transplant facility is almost three hours away from where Ashley lives in Florida, she will have to live in Miami for one to three months as required for post-operative checkups and monitoring.   In order for the transplant to take place,  Ashley must show that she has a minimum of $7,000 for any expenses that may arise.  Funds raised would not only help with this minimum requirement, but also with  additional follow-up care and testing, hospital stays from complications down the road, anti-rejection and other drugs that she will have to be on for the rest of her life (can easily exceed $3, 000/month), and rehabilitation.

Ashley and her family need to be ready to go at the drop of a dime, as the go ahead phone call could come at any minute.    Any donation is helpful in reducing the stress that comes along with this process.  Please feel free to share with others, and thank you in advance for your donations.  Your kindness and generosity will truly be giving Ashley a chance at a longer, beautiful life.
