Ashley's double mastectomy

Donation protected
Family and friends:

On May 23rd 2019 I will be having a prophylactic double mastectomy to remove my risk of developing breast cancer. This is a result of having the CDH1 genetic mutation. My risk of breast cancer is high because of CDH1, and also from my family history. My mom lost her battle with breast cancer at the very young age of 37. I have been getting mammograms and breast MRI'S every 6 months since I was 25. Screening is very expensive, and it's scary playing breast cancer roulette every 6 months! In 9 weeks I am pulling the trigger and choosing to take charge of my mind, body, and health. I am tired of waiting for cancer to strike. This has been exhausting and stressful.

For those of you that don't know me as well I am a 32 year old stay at home mother of two young daughters, and have been with my husband, and love of my life for 11 years. My entire family has been so extremely supportive, and by my side through my crazy medical experience this past year.

Two and a half years ago I had genetic testing done at the recommendation of my doctor. The results came back that I was positive for the CDH1 genetic mutation. That means that I had an 83% chance of getting herreditary diffuse gastric cancer which is not able to be screened for because of the way it grows. It also means that I have around a 40-50% chance of getting breast cancer, on top of the herreditary risk from my family history. Last year February 8th 2018 I underwent a total gastrectomy (complete removal of my stomach) It has been a very long and hard recovery this last year. I have had to learn how to nourish my body while living without a stomach, and have had several hospital stays due to malnutrition, and other complications requiring emergency surgery.

This has been a financial burden on my family, as my husband is the only provider. He has had to take several weeks off of work because of my medical issues and hospital stays. He will also be taking off 2 weeks from work in May when I have my mastectomy to help me while I recover. I was also just informed that I will have an out of pocket fee due the day of surgery that is $695. Then I will be having a second breast surgery a couple of months later for reconstruction. If you are in a position to help thank you for your love and support. I greatly appreciate all of you.

Thank you,
