My mom has struggled with severe pain since she was 10 years old. She was diagnosed with occipital neuralgia and trigeminal neuralgia, also known as the "suicide disease" because of the amount of pain it causes.
I am 28 years old but remember my mom being in bed a lot. Don't get me wrong, she was a wonderful mom and always put my needs above her own pain but looking back, I see how this disease affected her daily life and ability to fully parent the way that I know she would have loved too. I have a younger brother who is 9. As much as I want the quality of life better for my mom, I also want my brother Dayton to experience her at her best.
After years of seeing doctors and exhausting all resources, she discovered a procedure about a year ago called Peripheral Nerve Stimulation. They will anchor a stimulator to the muscle tissue on the occipital nerve at the base of her skull. Wires will connect from the stumulator, travel down her spine and connect to the battery that will be implanted into her hip. You know you've exhausted all resources and the pain is so bad, that you are willing to undergo such a procedure to take the pain away. We are hopeful that this will work!
This procedure has an 85% success rate worldwide and the doctor who will be doing her surgery has a 100% success rate. The surgery is $100,000.00 and $15,500.00 of it will be out of pocket. The funds raised will cover her out of pocket expenses not covered by insurance, child care, travel, medications, and time out of work.
My mom has spent her entire life helping raise money and awareness for charities and friends. Now it's her time to be on the receiving end. Please consider donating. No amount is too small. And please help spread the word by sharing this post. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
