For-nearly two months, Ashley Viers has been fighting for her life in the hospital. She was admitted to the hospital on November 27, and doctors didnt know what was wrong with her, but she needed a respirator to breathe and was beginning to experience organ failure of her liver, kidneys, and heart. Most days she was in a coma and non-responsive in the ICU of Abrazo Scottsdale Health. Her health then took a turn for the worse. 

 

 

 

With her health deteriorating, doctors made the decision to biopsy her brain after seeing lesions forming—during the biopsy, they removed one of the lesions and took a small piece of her brain to take for testing.
 
When the tests came back, doctors informed Alan that Ashley had a fungal infection (aspergillosis) caused by a fungus called Aspergillus.
 
The prognosis for this fungal infection when it reaches the brain is poor. For years, Aspergillus had a mortality rate of 99%. Fortunately, there have been some breakthrough medical advances that can help Ashley significantly, but they are very invasive, and costly, and many centers dont perform them. Thankfully, Ashley has begun treatment, and though there have been many ups and downs along the way, Ashley has begun to stabilize. 

 

Please help us raise some money for Alan and Ashley. They need proper medical treatment for her, which will be very lengthy (may take over a year) and complex. There will, surely, also be numerous other expenses as Ashley fights toward her road to recovery.
