Phoebe & Ashley’s Journey

Ashley Kelshaw is a devoted local who began her journey here in the Keys training dolphins at the Dolphin Research Center. Many may also know her from her years behind the bar at Overseas Pub & Grill and more recently at the Ale House. If you know Ashley, you know how deep her love for animals runs — and you also know that her sweet golden retriever, Phoebe, is her everything.

Phoebe is a 3-year-old golden retriever, full of love, joy, and energy. Sadly, Phoebe has recently been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive genetic cancer called cutaneous plasmacytosis. This disease has left her covered in tumors, struggling to walk more than short distances, and in need of blood transfusions. She has just started chemotherapy, and while we all hope and pray this will make a difference, doctors have explained that her case is very serious. Phoebe will most likely need ongoing transfusions and continued chemotherapy to fight this battle.

During this difficult time, Ashley is doing everything she can to stay by Phoebe’s side. This means taking time off work for appointments and treatments, which brings with it a heavy financial strain.
