UPDATE 10/25/16: Ashley began eating on his own while still at the vet's 8 days ago. He is home now and doing well but receives 2 insulin shots per day as well as a liver pill (I don't know which one). His new full legal name is Ashley Tiberius Morrrrrrrsk Abbott.  Picture on his cat tree (a ladder) was taken a couple of days after he got home from  the kitty hospital.  Thank you all for caring about ATMA!

Ashley needs help ASAP.  He is dying.

Ashley is a very, very sick cat. He belongs to my brother Gregg, who is legally blind and on a fixed income. My brother and his roommates adore this kitty and his BFF -dog brother Bear.

The total damage financially so far is about $3000.

Our longtime vet, Dr. Mark Pio, of Gardena, CA, says Ashley, who is only 6.5 years old, has hepatitis, pancreatitis and diabetes at this point. They started insulin Monday with no effect and doubled it Tuesday, but the tests still show high glucose.

They have done x-rays which have not found anything significant. Urinalysis and bloodwork have been done as well. They are force-feeding him and he is very yellow. He has elevated liver enzymes and elevated bilirubin.

We saw a specialist Wednesday who did an ultrasound. She thinks it is likely lymphoma of the liver or fatty liver disease, which is caused by not eating (not sure if that came on after the pancreatitis or what). She recommended tube feeding there, at $700-$1000+ PER DAY, so Ashley is now on his way back to the regular vet for more fluids/force-feeding. That's about all we can do now. And housing him there for a couple of days, getting an additional blood test, etc.--that's probably going to be at least another $500.

Unfortunately I have no more money to help my brother and Ashley. We lost our mom in April and I lost a cat in July (after spending $2300 only to have her die), so it has already been a very tough year for our family.

Thank you for reading this message. I am happy to share vet bills or provide vet information here.

If you are more comfortable donating toward Ashley-Morrrrrsk's care by calling the vet directly, it's Alondra Animal Hospital at [phone redacted]. Say it's for Ashley Abbott. After this weekend's stay we owe them nearly $1600.00.

P.S. Ashley's BFF Bear (a dog) misses him so much and wants his brother home.
