November through December 2018, the doctors in both Aspirus and Marshfield clinic simply could not figure out why Ashley could not eat or why she was becoming so weak that she wasn't able to pick up her beautiful baby girl. It was getting worse as the days went on but still no admittance, even though there were multiple times within a few days that they sat in the ER, praying for someone to help. All they got was I don't know, your tests look fine and sent home. She went 2 weeks with little to no food, lost 20 pounds and could no longer walk by herself. She was finally admitted in Marshfield on December 28. Tests and more tests were done with the conclusion that she has Guillain-Barre syndrome. A condition in which the immune system attacks the nerves.
On January 1, she had become so weak that she needed to be transferred to the ICU and a breathing tube put in. The treatment is a plasma exchange and immunoglobulin therapy. She was able to text the Drs and her family if she needed something done that she couldn't do by herself, like adjusting her legs or brushing her hair.
On January 4th, she was diagnosed with pneumonia. About a week later, she again got pneumonia. She once was able to text her family and medical staff when she needed something, but as of January 12th, that had become too difficult. All she is able to do is nod or shake her head ever so slightly.
Ashley is employed at Simplicity Credit Union in Marshfield, WI. She really enjoys her job, but as she was getting weaker, her job became more and more challenging. To the point she wasn't able to work. Simplicity has been incredibly kind to Ashley in her situation.
Her husband Jon Freese has been by her side every step of the way. Ashley's parents Marie and Mark Heintz have also been by her side. They are tag teaming with Jon so there's always someone there with Ashley, allowing Jon to see Alaina.
Alaina is Jon and Ashley's beautiful little girl that just turned one. She has been bouncing from grandparent's houses and home with Jon on a few nights. It's heartbreaking to think Ashley hasn't been able to hold her daughter in over a month.
Ashley's body is still fighting for survival. Praying that soon the treatments will start to work and she can start rehab, but she needs to be stabilized first.
On January 16, the doctors at Marshfield hospital are unsure of what else to do. It might be something more that just Guillain-Barre Syndrome and that's why the treatments aren't working like they should. They are transporting her to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN via ambulance. As of this moment, Ashley is in a paralysis state.
We're just praying for the doctors at Mayo Clinic to figure out for sure what is wrong with Ashley and the knowledge to heal her.
I'm asking all of our family, friends and anyone reading this to consider donating to Ashley and Jon. It's really hard asking for help but sometimes we need to accept it.
This is a life changing season for this family.
Ashley's insurance will run out eventually and they will need to pay cobra to help with the medical bills.
We greatly appreciate any donations and prayers for Ashley and her family.
