Ashley‘s Recovery

Donation protected
My sister Ashley is a 23 year old girl in her last few semesters to become a speech pathologist. Ashley is my kind, beautiful, smart, hard working, funny, sarcastic, and full of life sister. She is the baby in our family and has myself, Charlene, and an older brother, Ryan. Just recently she spoke to my sister in law, Jami, about her passion to work with stroke victims.
Unfortunately on February 14,2019 Ashley suffered two seizures in the middle of the night.Luckily her boyfriend was there for the 2nd seizure and called an ambulance.  It was discovered that she has a cavernoma (malformation of blood vessels) on her left temporal lobe ironically between the Wernick and Broca part of her brain which is responsible for speech.  The morning after she suffered from an arterial stroke. As I write this message on Thursday February 21st doctors are still trying to figure out what caused this stroke because cavernomas do not typically cause strokes. Her full body scan shows that she has a PFO (small hole in the heart) that could have been a passage for a clot to get through to her brain. Other than that as of right now there is nothing else that has shown what has caused it. We are still waiting for a TEG test to take a closer look at her heart.
While Ashley has suffered a major stroke she has been defying the odds and making small gains every day. Initially she was not able to move the right side of her body and is now moving her leg and fingers. Initially she was unable to speak and this morning blew doctors away when they asked how she was and she said “I’m fine.” The doctors and nurses are impressed by her bravery and how strong she has been.
We know there is a long road ahead for recovery for Ashley but we also know we have a fighter in her. As a studying speech pathologist we know she will use her own knowledge to help herself. As an occupational therapist assistant myself I know I will do everything I can to help recovery especially for her to walk down the aisle as my maid of honor on September 13,2019. We have a strong group of family and friends who are taking turns so that she is never alone and have offered to help us in any way they can.
Despite all of this we also know that with recovery comes expenses. I am setting up this Go Fund Me page asking anyone for even the smallest donation to help with out of pocket co-pays, assistance with settling any of Ashley’s bills, any changes that needs to be made to the house to make it better accessible to her after she returns from rehab, any transportation costs (both my father and mother don’t drive),  pet supplies for her dog Scout and bunny Penelope, medical equipment, and anything else to assist Ashley on her road to recovery. If you can’t make a donation we ask that you still say a prayer for Ashley on her road to recovery.
Thank you so much in advance and I will periodically post updates on her progress.

Special thanks to Ashley's family and friends, my fiancé Doug, Ashley’s boyfriend Tim, my future mother in law Claire, and the amazing doctors and nurses helping Ashley.
