Ashley Amland Memorial Fund

After a tragic loss, we are writing to raise funds for the family of our dear friend Ashley Amland, as her parents, sister, family, and friends learn to navigate a world without her in it.

If you were lucky enough to call Ashley a friend, which many of us were, you know that she radiated joy - she found the good in every situation, no matter how trying. Ashley was a connector - she was skilled at bringing people from all different circles together, helping them to find common ground, and eventually, friendship. She linked people together effortlessly, and always had room in her heart for one more friend. She had the best smile, her smile could light up a room.

Ashley was fearless. At the age of 22, when most of us were graduating college and hoping to find our first job, she packed her bags and moved across the country from Minnesota to New York City. She had no job or plan, but it didn’t matter. She was determined to fulfill her lifelong dream, and nothing was going to stop her. She worked long hours at various jobs, but did so with grit and endless optimism, eventually landing her dream job at Hearst. Along the way, she built lasting friendships, explored the city she loved, and showed us all how to live life to the fullest.

Ashley had many passions, including tennis, boy bands, Minnesota football, a good party (especially if there was a theme), and dancing, but most of all, she loved to travel. Ashley studied abroad in London while attending the University of Minnesota, and used that opportunity to see much of Western Europe. She visited her sister, Megan, while she studied abroad in New Zealand, and ventured to Australia along the way. In the final months of her life, Ashley surprised us all by showing up in Paris for the French Open, one of three tennis grand slams she was able to attend. Needless to say, Ashley was always down for an adventure.

Ashley was known for her frequent visits home. Despite living in New York, she always found the time to show up for family gatherings, birthdays, and weddings. On August 5, Ashley returned home to attend one of her best friends’ weddings. She made the responsible choice to take an Uber home. Just one mile from her family’s home, the Uber she was traveling in was struck by a suspected drunk driver. Ashley sustained grave injuries and fought for her life in the intensive care unit for one week before passing away on Monday, August 15th.

With your support, we are working to raise $40,000 in Ashley’s honor. Her family will use these funds to hold two celebration of life ceremonies - one in Minnesota and one in New York City. It will also be used to pay for her family’s travel to New York City, the expense associated with moving Ashley’s earthly possessions back to Minnesota, and finally, to pay any outstanding debts that she may have.

Thank you for your support. Please share your love, thoughts, and memories of Ashley.
