Five days ago, my friend’s 25-year-old daughter was in a serious hit-and-run motorcycle accident that left her with a broken wrist (distal radius fracture). She is scheduled for surgery tomorrow to have screws and a plate placed, which they will remove after 3-6 months; however, the out-of-pocket cost of the procedure is $4,000—something she cannot manage on her own.
