Support Ashleigh’s Stroke Recovery!
Donation protected
On July 4, 2019, Ashleigh, a 28 year old mother, suffered a devastating, massive, ischemic basilar arterial stroke. This was the result of oral birth control. When she had the stroke, they were able to remove the blood clot. She has had so many setbacks and obstacles that nobody should have to endure. A few days after the initial stroke she suffered another stroke due to the increased swelling and pressure. She has had many procedures such as the back of her skull removed (craniectomy), portions of damaged brain removed, and a drain placed (EVD). Some other setbacks Ashleigh has faced include: several bouts of pneumonia, severe infections, and other medical issues related to her stroke. She has beat the odds. She is fighting hard. Harder than any person should ever have to fight to live.
We have heard many times: “I know someone that had a stroke and they are fine now.” Ashleigh’s stroke was much more severe. It affected both sides of her brain. She has been diagnosed with locked-in syndrome. (Locked-in syndrome (LIS), also known as pseudocoma, is a condition in which a patient is aware but cannot move or communicate verbally due to complete paralysis of nearly all voluntary muscles in the body except for vertical eye movements and blinking).
Ashleigh is currently in rehab at Shirley Ryan. While she is still considered locked in, she is making progress everyday. Doctors recommend she be in rehab for 6 months to a year, but due to her locked in prognosis, her insurance will only allow 8 weeks. Due to this, Ashleigh’s tentative release date is October 16, 2019.
When she comes home, she will be moving in with her mom. (Along with her son, Cameron, and 2 of her brothers and 1 sister). She will need 24/7 care. Ashleigh will require special medical equipment, house renovations, transportation, and more just to accommodate her everyday needs. This is financially and medically devastating. We don’t know what the future holds but we are trying to make her “recovery” as easy on her as possible. We want to try to make life “normal” for her again. She is still alive inside. Ashleigh was a single mother, to her 8 year old son Cameron. She is also a great friend, daughter, and sister. She was always there for everyone else and could be counted on no matter what.
If you can find it in your heart to donate to Ashleigh’s gofundme I can promise you it will be put to one of the best causes around. A mother who needs all of the help she can get to recover and provide for her son. We appreciate everyone that has already donated. Please share her page and keep Ashleigh and Cameron, who are living in a nightmare, in your thoughts.
