Our darling girl continues to have a ruff run in
this thing called life .
Asha has been unable to do her usual activities
and see her friends for weeks now. She stopped
putting weight on her right leg awhile ago which then turned into a bad limp she hasn’t been able to shake. Anytime she runs or plays too hard,
she is back to not being able to put weight on it .
She is the toughest dog I have ever met, though
it is obvious that she has been in pain and
adapting to get by.
We recently took her to the vet where they did many tests and X-rays. Results came back that
she has a partial rupture in her cranial cruciate
ligament, and that bone degeneration and
arthritis in the area has already begun. They
said she needed weekly adequan injections
Which we started that day, weeks of physio to
precondition for surgery, surgery, 8-10 weeks
in a crate and months of physio post op. They
also said she isn’t allowed to do any physical
activity and must lose 6kg in the next few weeks as she is at risk of rupturing her other leg~
which would mean two surgeries. She is now on
multiple daily supplements and a strict raw
kangaroo diet.
A friend of ours referred us to an incredible
specialist in Brisbane who wants to investigate
things further. Asha spent the day there getting more X-rays and joint taps in both of her back
legs. He believes she is too young to have
ruptured this ligament for no reason, and
thinks we could be dealing with some kind of
inflammatory or orthopaedic disease.
Anyone who knows us will know that we have
taken more financial hits recently than we can
count and have been struggling immensely since we had to suddenly move last year. We both
work 50+ hours/week yet are just scraping by.
Just these last couple of vet visits have really
wiped us out. We were very hesitant about
making a go fund me because so many people
are struggling at the moment, but many
Incredibly kind people have suggested it and
offered to help~ and we’re just not in any
position to turn down help right now. We just
want Asha to get the best care that she can
Receive and a solid chance at being able to run
again in her young years. We have already spent
over 2k since starting her healing journey and
I’m sure the costs are going to exceed what we
are hoping to raise, but any thing at all would be
a huge help and at least get our foot in the door for more specialist appointments, physical
therapy and a deposit on surgery if it still comes to that❤️
About Asha
We took Asha in when she was just a pup and
saved her from an abusive human and
detrimental environment. We had no plans to
keep her at first, only to save her - though she
very quickly made her way into our hearts and
now we could never imagine life without her.
Asha is 15 months old and brings joy and
laughter to any room she struts into. She is full
of endless sass and unconditional love. She is
a very annoying little sister, though the
adoration she has for her big brother, Buddha, is like no other.
Asha absolutely loves going to the beach,
playing with friends, tug-of-war, learning new
tricks, doing nose work and exploring new
places. She is a very active high energy dog who thrives on new experiences and adventure. Not getting to do all of those things due to current
circumstances has really been taking its toll.
