Ashanti Eliza is a candidate for Gamma Phi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated’s Miss Black and Gold 2016-2017. This pageant will be held in the fall at Tuskegee University. Her platform is encouraging community service and social justice. If Ashanti is blessed to win she will tout the platform
to Miss Black & Gold for the State of Alabama and beyond as she aspires for the National title.
She is currently entering her sophomore year at Tuskegee University; as a double major studying Sales & Marketing and Supply Chain Management. An Atlanta native, Ashanti graduated from Riverwood International Charter School where she was a member of National Arts Honors Society, Future Business Leaders of America and was a Varsity Cheerleader. She is also an award winning AAU Cheerleader.
Ashanti is also an ardent community volunteer. She has served the United Way of America, Hands on Atlanta, Adopt-a- Highway, Atlanta Junior League & Nearly New Shop and Hosea Feed the Hungry. In recognition of her extensive volunteer service, she received the President's Volunteer Service Award accompanied by a letter from President Barack H. Obama. As a child, she was a member of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated where she held various leadership positions in her chapter's teen group.
She made her society-debut during the Phi Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Incorporated’s biennial cotillion in 2014. In addition to her Debutante experience, she also participated in Nu Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated’s Fashionetta pageant and served as a volunteer for their Emerging Young Leaders (EYL) program at Jean Childs Young Middle school where she taught the middle school girls jewelry design techniques.
As an entrepreneur, she launched a jewelry design company, Bella Elizabeth. She specializes in customized handcrafted bracelets and create her pieces mainly from organic/natural beads and stones.“I discovered early in life that I was creatively entrepreneurial and I’ve used this passion along with mycommitment to service as a means to not only build a company, but to also impart the importance of "doing for self" to younger children and my peers,” Ashanti said.
The purpose of the Miss Black & Gold Scholarship Pageant is to award scholarships to deserving women for their academic achievements, civic engagement and personal success. The young ladies are awarded scholarships based on their cumulative grade point average, overall pageant performance and money raised by selling ads. The winners of the pageant are ranked as follows: Miss Black & Gold (1st Place), Miss Black (2nd Place), and Miss Gold (3rd Place). The Miss Black & Gold Pageant is a national event hosted by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The winner of this pageant has the opportunity to represent the Gamma Phi Chapter at the state level. The scholarships will be distributed following the pageant.
