Hello everyone, thanks for stopping by.
(Online payment accounts are at the bottom if you can spare anything to help.)
My name is Jesse, and I work as a Foreman for IBEW Local 659, helping to maintain the power lines that keep electricity flowing in the Pacific Northwest. I am also a devoted father and husband to my ol’ lady and our kids. I am a workaholic, with poor money management skills apparently. Looks like I should have put more effort into Home Economics Class instead of daydreaming about my definite future career as a Rocket Scientist or a Green Beret.
Anyways, a few weeks ago, on a Sunday, I had a serious accident and cut my hand badly—severing two tendons in my left hand. Though if you ask the people who were there at the time, I only did it to get a break from working in the 90°+ heat. Had to go get surgery on it, the doctor told me I have one chance to heal, and I am on a strict lifting restriction of 2 lbs or less for at least three months. Which makes everything in life surprisingly difficult. I dont think there are many things that we use day to day that weigh less than that. Also it unfortunately means that I can’t work or provide for my family right now. I hear they are already looking for a replacement for me.
Not being able to work, I applied for Oregon Paid Leave and Short Term Disability, but it will be a while before anything comes through. They are very thorough and meticulous, sometimes annoyingly so, but i do appreciate the services provided by their patient staff. And in the meantime, the bills keep piling up—rent, food, utilities, credit cards, and more—and we are on a month-to-month lease. Im not sure there is much else I can do besides what I am. We are really struggling, and I am filled with regret that I didn’t prepare better for something like this. Also being a workaholic and forced to stay home is torture, though I do enjoy the extra time with my family. I am definitely going to start an emergency fund as soon as I am able to. Because we are having to push payments back to afford food, gas, car insurance, and the essentials. Really rough deal.
So if you are able to spare any support, whether it’s a donation, kind words, or simply sharing this post, it would mean the world to us. We just need some help to get through until I can work again.
