My chest has been a source of discomfort since it started to grow when I was twelve, and top surgery is something I've nervously dreamed about for years. Professional dancers don't get space to hide any parts of our bodies, and the freedom top surgery will give me to fully inhabit mine is going to change my life.
As a young performing artist who prides themself on their ability to Just Keep Swimming, the timing was never quite right until the world stopped and I was forced to confront what I had been working so hard to run from. So, I finally made an appointment.
Now, I am deeply humbled by the need to ask for your support: In order to transform my life and give myself the ability to inhabit our world in the fullest and most authentic expression of myself, I need your help. In doing so, I become another in the long lineage of folx who rely on the care and support of their community in order to get their gender-affirming surgery.
I have always been who I am. This procedure will close the gap between my Self and my body's expression of that Self; a life-altering change for a professional dancer.
The funds from this campaign will be used to pay for my surgery, and to give myself a financial buffer for the days I'm taking off of work. If we go past what I need to fill those gaps, any extra will be redistributed to other top surgery campaigns.
