New Update 11/5/24: We finally heard from our homeowners insurance. They determined that they have no responsibility for the damages to our home. So our only hope is FEMA. Even if we are paid the maximum by FEMA we will still need tens of thousands more. We have never felt so helpless and hopeless in our lives. So if you can help, please do. If not, then please share. God bless y'all.
Update, from Debi, please read! On September 27th the day of the storm I had a biopsy scheduled in Charlotte. God had other plans. Instead we fled our homes with the clothes on our back and sat for 6 hours on top of a hill with no way out.
We were able to get back to the house the next day and everything we own was destroyed. Our two military sons showed up and have been working hard trying to beat the mold and gutting the inside of the house so we have hope to be able to live there again. I had the biopsy and we really believed in our hearts that everything would be okay but instead I've been diagnosed with two types of cancer I will either have surgery or chemo and radiation we are so blessed by so many but now we need to ask for even more help we're homeless but staying with friends I don't know what tomorrow brings but I do know that I want to be in our home to fight this new battle that we have to face.
We really don't want to have to do that from a motel or a friend's home. No one needs to be expected to put up with that. Please help us I've never begged for anything but I'm begging for whatever you can do to help us get our home livable again. Now I know each day is one day less I have to do what I want and need to do to fight this new battle. I'm praying that God will be able to answer our prayers to get us back into our own home. Please help us .

Hello, I’m Tamera. I am the daughter in law of Marv and Debi Chapman. They were just hit by Hurricane Helene and have lost everything but what they ran to safety with.
Marv and Debi moved to NC to retire and be close to family. The community never expected anything like this to happen. Unfortunately, after buying their home, they learned they can’t get flood insurance.
Right now, their home has thick mud covering their entire floors in each room. There was about 7 ft of water in their home. Their truck was completely under water and is totaled. Friends and family are helping them to pull everything out of the mud. NOTHING is salvageable at this point. EVERYTHING will have to be taken out of the home and the home will have to be guttted.
Marv and Debi have worked so hard all of their lives. While there are so many things that can’t be replaced, they need help replacing what they can and trying to find a new normal.
Marv just recovered from a hip replacement a few months ago. The day prior to the hurricane he had hernia surgery. Debi was supposed to have surgery the day it hit but now has to postpone her surgery. Needless to say, this has been a very trying time in their lives.
We have had so many ask how they can help and this is the best way to help.
