Ascent of Kilimanjaro for Alzheimer’s
Last summer I sadly lost both my Mum and Dad. They both suffered with dementia, and my Mum suffered from the gradual decline of Alzheimer’s. This gradually ate away at her brain, took away her memory, her confidence, her ability to do what she loved and eventually her ability to swallow. It was heartbreaking for our family, especially for my Dad who tried so hard every day.
Whilst we received invaluable support from family, friends, carers and Alzheimer’s Society, there is not enough support available for those with dementia and their loved ones. Money is needed to fund vital research to help find a cure for this terrible disease.
In August this year, our son Sam and I have self funded a challenge to climb the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro - highest mountain in Africa. This will be tough: climbing for 8 days, through varied terrain and temperatures reducing to -20. We will face altitude and fatigue, but we will be thinking of all those where the challenges of daily life are so much harder.
We would like to raise as much as we can for the Alzheimer’s Society. Every penny you give will go to this amazing cause, as we are paying for the trip ourselves.
Needless to say that we would value knowing that our family and friends are behind us and cheering us on!
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Your support is very much appreciated
