ASCEND is a TK-8th school located in the heart of the Fruitvale District of Oakland, California. The school prides itself in having a learning community that works to develop the whole individual through arts-integration, expeditionary learning, personalization, and a focus on social and emotional growth. 

These values have led our school to have yet another intercession week where students will have the opportunity to select and take a class different from their day to day core subjects.  Last year during intercession, students took classes ranging from rock climbing, photography, game making, hiking, and so much more!

For one of the classes this year we will be taking a group of 2nd-8th graders camping in the Santa Cruz mountains. Students will have the opportunity to learn outdoor skills, experience the beauty of nature, take on leadership opportunities, and challenge themselves to accomplish more than they thought possible.  

Middle school students will also have the opportunity to participate in a 15 mile backpacking trip from the ocean to the redwoods and spend 2 nights camping under the stars, learning wilderness survival skills, and pushing their limits.

In order for us to be able to take students camping, we are raising $3,500 to pay for the bus, campsite, food, and any additional expenses that may arise.
