Help Asa and Coach go to National Duals and Fargo

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kim Gale. I am fundraising for my friend Asa Goff's Wrestling Career Expenses

This fundraiser is for 2 separate travel events for Asa and his coach, one trip for each to Chicago, and one trip for each to Fargo where Asa will be competing in Freestyle and Greco-Roman for both events. Not all participants have qualified for both styles in one event. Asa has. This is a very special accomplishment.

From Kim Gale:
My experience is that Asa is a sweet, kind, highly intelligent young man. I have experienced this kindness each time we are together. Asa is always the first to give me a hand and make sure that I am comfortable and taken care of at events. Asa is a very good friend to this Super Senior Citizen. We have tons of fun together and I am thrilled that he is doing so well with the sport of wrestling.

Asa's First Pin

From Asa
My name is Asa and I'm a sophomore wrestling for Newport Harbor High School in California. I was recently selected to represent Team California at the Cadet National Duals, as well as the USMC National Freestyle and Greco Championships in Fargo.

I love the sport with all my heart and have been competing for 2 years now. I've worked hard to get where I am, dedicating countless hours of training and practice to improve my skills. In the 2 short years, I have steadily honed my craft. I was introduced to Freestyle and Greco this spring and immediately fell in love with the sport. I took my lumps early but found success. I placed 5th at the California Freestyle State Tournament but failed to qualify for Fargo. My next chance came very recently in Utah, where I wrestled at the Western Regionals. This is where everything clicked and I found myself winning a silver medal in Greco, as well as pinning my way to a Gold Medal in Freestyle. This earned me a spot in both Freestyle and Greco for Fargo representing California. I am so excited about this opportunity.

But, I need your help. The cost of entering, traveling, and competing at Fargo is expensive and my family cannot cover all of the expenses by themselves. I'm asking for your help to make my dream of competing in Fargo a reality. The funds raised will cover travel, lodging and registration fees for both the National Cadet Duals and USMC National Championships. Any amount you're able to contribute would be greatly appreciated!

From Coach Mike

It has been a fantastic experience being part of Asa's journey. I have watched him everyday practice with the dedication and effort that only top-notch athletes have. He has a never-give-up attitude and has wrestled some of the best matches a coach could ask for.

He has 100% earned this opportunity with his hard work not only on the mat but in the classroom. Asa is everything a student athlete stands for, and represents our program, our school, and our community at the highest level.

As a coach, we ask for effort and concentration, and Asa has always answered with an enthusiastic "Yes Coach".

This opportunity for Asa is something that he will remember for a lifetime!

Sincerely

From Coach Kyle

I have had the pleasure of coaching Asa over the past year. Within this time I have seen him mature both in the sport of wrestling as well as in life. I have watched him transform his body as well as his mind and character through wrestling.

What he has accomplished within the last year has been amazing to watch. The road has not been easy for Asa. Wrestling is one of the if not the hardest sport there is. First you have to master yourself, before you can ever expect to master an opponent. It humbles everyone. Through this trial of fire you must forge yourself day after day. You are the metal that is pounded between the hammer and the forge in the most extreme pressure and heat. Some break under such pressure. Asa on the other hand keeps coming back day in and day out with tenacity.

He did not always see the progress we saw from the coaches' seats. However he trusted the process during the season. He gave 100% every chance he got. During the spring season, after starting freestyle and greco he found his calling. success did not come immediately, but you could tell with every match he was getting better. He sought out the toughest competition. He jumped in at the chance to challenge himself. He wrestled every event he could enter. He found success placing 5th at California Freestyle State. Followed up by making the podium in both greco and freestyle at the Western Regionals. Making the finals in both. The first day he lost the Greco finals by 1 point to take silver. But on day 2, he would be standing at the top of the podium with the gold medal around his neck.

This would qualify him to represent California at the USMC U16 Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota. Simply called Fargo by the wrestling community. If you want to know how good a wrestler is, you ask them, "how did you do at Fargo?". He also was invited to represent Team California at the Cadet National Duals. He is the first Wrestler from Newport Harbor to be invited to represent Team California at the Duals.

It is crazy to think that he has only been wrestling 2 years and accomplished these feats. What is exciting is he still has 2 more years left at Newport Harbor. He is just getting started. There are many great things in store for Asa. He works just as hard in the classroom as he does on the mat. With his grades and his determination he has a bright future.

Please consider donating to help his family raise money for the expenses to get him to these 2 national tournaments. It is a great honor to coach Asa and I know he will make everything of the opportunity that is given to him.
