Hello to all of our friends and family! As many of you already know, Our son Asa has non-verbal Autism. He was diagnosed at 18 months old and the struggles over the years have been many. He is now 11 and attending a full time special needs program at his Middle School close to our home. Asa has struggled with severe food aversions and is literally surviving on a diet that is strictly potato chips and water, and has since he was 2. From the ages of 6 to 8 he wasn't eating anything...just drinking liquids. Through feeding therapy nearly 6 hrs a day he was able to start eating at least his chips again. While he was younger we would syringe and force feed as much liquid vitamins and supplements we could manage to get in him. As he's grown it became much more difficult to do.
He was seen recently by his gastroenterologist where they ran a blood test. Despite how healthy he looks, he was obviously vitamin deficient. He told us he considered Asa to be malnourished and suggested a G-Tube (feeding tube). We agree its the best shot we have at getting REAL foods into him and all of the vitamins and supplements he majorly lacks, so that he has a chance to finally feel good, sleep better and have focus in his therapies. Asa's holistic physician gave us a formulated regimen specific to his Autism symptoms. This treatment is specifically targeting his overall health, sleep cycles and opening up brain activity and areas of the brain that are responsible for speech and communication. Thats HUGE. Included in the goal is the cost for Methyl B-12 injections that are made by a compounding pharmacy out of state. The B-12 improve language, social and cognitive skills and overall easing of Autism symptoms. There is so much that can change and we hope WILL change in his life, once he starts his regimen. Unfortunately the cost of the treatment is beyond our budget and fundraising is our only option.
We are SO grateful to everyone who will help us meet this goal. Thank you!!! God bless your giving!
