Update: It’s time for surgery for Asa! We are grateful as a family that Asa is healthy enough for the next step in his recovery and healing. We so appreciate your love, support and prayers.

I’m including here the latest update via caring bridge -

With gratitude,
Rebeccah

Asa (and the rest of us) have had a really nice summer thus far. Asa has shed his training wheels and his life jacket. He's swimming and biking like a big kid these days! He's happy and healthy and his energy, curiosity and zest are so fun to be around. He is 6 and loving it!

It's been easy to forget that if and when he gets sick, we run the risk of the Tracheomalacia causing big and terrifying problems. He's been so strong and vibrant this summer. It's a reality that I (Tim) have been struggling mightily with in the past couple of months. How could a kid who is so healthy (currently) need this daunting surgery?

If you are just joining us, Asa will be having a surgery next week, Monday 8/14 to correct his Tracheomalacia. His surgery will be performed by a tremendously capable and caring team at Boston Children's Hospital, led by Dr Ben Zendejas. We couldn't feel any more confident and comfortable with the care and expertise at BCH. This surgery is a specialty of this team at BCH, it's not performed anywhere else in the world. Boggles the mind. We are hopeful this will be the end of Asa's struggles with his breathing, though it's not a guarantee. Given what he has been through, and specifically in the past 6 months, we've made the decision to do all we can to make sure Asa never has to struggle like that again. If you feel like reading back into this, it's all right here in the caringbridge. I can't go back right now, only looking forward at this life changing surgery and the chapter of Asa's life that will, God willing, be closed as this procedure is completed.

So we head to Boston later this week, for pre op on Friday. As we have been for all of this journey, we feel surrounded by love and caring. Thank you for all your well wishes and support.

Original message: My precious 5 year old nephew Asa needs all the good vibes and prayers that can be sent his way right now.

He has been hospitalized for 2 weeks and the Doctors are working hard to determine what is wrong and how to treat him.

So many of you are asking how you can help which we so appreciate.

Above all else, please see him as healthy and thriving, send love and prayers, and if you wish, donating here to gofundme is the best way to support the family at this time.

Our family is using CaringBridge to keep EVERYONE updated. We know how many people love and care about us, and this is the best way to keep in touch with EVERYONE at once, and gives us the most time with Asa.

A CaringBridge Site was created for Asa for updates. It‘s a caring social network to help people stay connected with family and friends during a health event.
