My name is Amber McCuin, I’m creating this Gofundme to support my sister Kasey and her husband Caleb Allen. On Friday Oct. 13th my 16 month nephew Asa was taken to the ER in Livingston, TX. After x-rays were taken, it was discovered that he had swallowed a button battery. He was transported to the Children’s Hospital at the Woodland’s where a team of doctors and specialists were finally able to remove the battery after it had been lodged for almost 9 hours! Around 2am he was then transported to Texas a Children’s Hospital and placed on a ventilator. CT scan revealed that he has severe damage to the throat, esophagus and surrounding areas caused by the acid and corroding of the battery. He has air leaking out from the tissues being so thin and it’s causing severe swelling and irritation of the throat. He is on paralytics, sedatives, pain meds, and is only able to get a small amount of nutrients through his iv but he is fighting! Every time they try to wean him off of some of the medication he starts moving those arms and legs. He is going to have a very long road of recovery. Doctors are saying to prepare for a month long stay at the hospital. Kasey and Caleb are 5 hours away from home and having to spend alot of time away from their other 2 children (2yr & 5yr old) This puts a strain on them mentally, physically, financially and in every other way possible. Every meal is eaten at the hospital cafeteria or ordered in through DoorDash. If you feel in your heart to donate or DoorDash food for them that would be great but above all just please pray for Asa to make a full and speedy recovery. And please be aware of the dangers of button batteries! Asa took a remote completely apart to get to this battery. Just because it’s not loosely lying around doesn’t mean your baby can’t get to it. Thank you!
