The Urban Family

As many of you know, Chris was hospitalized on February 7th with spinal meningitis and HSV-1 encephalitis, after feeling ill for several days prior. He was admitted to the ICU with confusion, brain swelling and a small brain bleed. He began to show some progress, and was transferred to the neurology floor. Chris tested + for Covid on 2/20 ultimately delaying his transfer to the Rehab Hospital. On 2/22 he started having a fever and significant amount of GI bleeding, and was transferred back to the ICU, where they found a large ulcer pressing on an artery. This artery ultimately ruptured which caused a large amount of bleeding into his stomach. Chris received 3 units of blood, and a coil in the artery to stop bleeding on 2/23. He is currently on the ventilator in the ICU, as the doctors wait for the blood in his stomach to pass and the ulcer to heal.

The goal is to get Chris to the Rehab Hospital where he can regain his strength and brain function. Prior to going back to the ICU, he was still having difficulty with memory, processing information, and even doing simple activities such as feeding himself. The Neurologists are hopeful for a full recovery due to his age and health.

Chris started a new job in November, does not have short term disability or PTO to help cover his time off, therefore they are without a second income for the unforeseeable future. Any donations will help with medical bills and living expenses, and will hopefully help ease some stress on their family during this difficult time.
