Arya Lewis

Hi, my name is Katelyn and many of you probably know my sister Megan. Megan and Devante’s 4 year old daughter Arya was hospitalized on 12/21/22. They started noticing changes in her balance. Her right side started to tremor and she was having trouble walking and carrying things.

On day 1 Arya was in the ER where she had x-Rays and CT scans. From there Arya was taken by ambulance to DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit several hours away from their home where she is currently in the ICU. They found fluid build up around her brain and a mass on the right side which was pushing her brain to the left side of her skull.

On day 2 Arya was put under anesthesia and had an operation to put a drain tube in her head that will be left in until surgery along with an MRI. When the results came back they discovered she has a brain tumor. At this time we are unsure of what the tumor is and won’t know until after removal.

On day 3 Arya had an EEG to monitor seizure activity.

On day 4 Arya had an MRI on her spine. The results from the MRI and EEG both came back as normal.

On day 5 Arya was able to get out of bed and sit in a chair and play with her play dough! She is missing her sisters and brother so much! She is scheduled to have brain surgery on Wednesday 12/28/22 to remove as much of the tumor as they can, but as she gets older she may need to have several surgeries in order to remove the rest of the tumor. Arya is able to communicate with us, eat and drink, but still has mobility issues. After surgery they expect to stay 5-7 days for recovery as long as everything goes as planned. In addition she will need physical therapy once she is home.
